How We Give Back

Brendan Steffen

At Higher Purpose Gifts we are all about making our customers’ gifting experience the best that it could be AND giving back. There are many different organizations that customers are able to choose from at checkout that Higher Purpose Gifts donates some of its net profits to each month. Here is a little information about these organizations.

Burke Scholars

The Burke Scholar Program at Notre Dame College Preparatory School is designed to provide an inclusive Catholic education for young men with mild to moderate cognitive disabilities. Young men with disabilities, such as Down syndrome, autism, genetic disorders and learning disabilities are given an opportunity to partake in a religious educational setting. The Burke Scholar program is the first of its kind in the Archdiocese of Chicago and one of first of such programs in the United States. Notre Dame College Prep believes that all students are entitled to receive a Catholic high school experience regardless of ability or disability. Students in this program are mainstreamed for subjects such as religion, science, social studies, physical education, and electives. Special education teachers work more closely with these students on their English and math skills to obtain individual goals.

Autism Cares Foundation

The Autism Cares Foundation differentiates itself from other organizations raising funds for autism as our support revolves around improving the life experiences for children, teens, and adults with special needs.

Brave Hearts

BraveHearts provides equine-assisted activities and therapies with teams of expert staff, dedicated volunteers and therapy horses at multiple safe and caring facilities. In addition to serving children and adults, BraveHearts provides innovative services to meet the needs of our military veterans and their families. By utilizing a faculty of national experts and through its innovative programming, education and research, BraveHearts has become a center of excellence within the therapeutic industry.

Mercy Home for Boys and Girls

Most of us grew up in a safe and stable home where we had shelter, food, clothing, and safety. But a home provides more than just these basics. A home offers us love, laughter, and belonging. A home promises nurturing and growth. A home is where we are seen and heard. Mercy Home for Boys & Girls offers kids a real home. A place where they can grow into successful men and women who will one day create loving homes for their own families. As a Catholic children’s charity based in Chicago, we’re dedicated to changing the future for the boys and girls, ages of 9-21, who turn to us for help in their most critical hour.

Misericordia offers a community of care that maximizes potential for persons with mild to profound developmental disabilities, many of whom are also physically challenged.  By serving society’s most vulnerable citizens, Misericordia also serves the families who want the best for them, yet cannot provide it at home.

National Association for Downs Syndrome

NADS is the oldest organization in the country serving individuals with Down syndrome and their families. It was founded in Chicago in 1961 by parents who chose to go against medical advice and raised their children with Down syndrome at home. Their pioneering efforts have made it easier for later generations of individuals with Down syndrome to be accepted by their families and communities, to develop their capabilities, and to work towards independence.

Pat Mac's Pack

Pat Mac’s Pack is a charitable organization established in memory of Patrick Thomas McNamara, who died at the age of 13 after an eleven year battle with recurrent brain tumors. The main purpose of Pat Mac’s Pack is to raise funds for pediatric brain tumor research. These funds will be used to support various projects including drug research and development, and the advancement of novel surgical procedures used to treat pediatric brain tumors. The organization also provides funds to assist young cancer patients and their families. In addition, our foundation works to raise awareness about the devastation of this disease.

Special Children's Charities of Chicago

Special Olympics is the world’s largest program for sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, inspiring greatness in more than 5 million athletes in 172 nations worldwide. Because of Special Olympics, the world has witnessed the courage, character, dedication, dignity and worth of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Chris, Connor, Aidan, and the team passed out can koozies at the booth. Attendees received flyers, had a chance to win prizes, and received a special SHRM discount for New Gift Sets available online now!

How to Choose the Perfect Corporate Gift Basket

Brendan Steffen

If you are looking for advice on how to choose a unique gift basket in Chicago, you've come to the right place. Themed gift baskets in Chicago are a creative way to leave a good first impression with new clients and customers, and show your employees, long-time clients, and employers how much you value the relationship. They are also a great opportunity to give a gift with meaning and support a local company specializing in cause-based gifting. There are a variety of corporate and business gifts in Chicago to choose from, so here are some helpful tips to get you started.

Consider the Recipient

Before choosing the right gift to send your corporate recipient, you should consider who they are. Ask yourself: What is their role in the company? How long have you known them? What level of professionalism do you need to portray? Here are some important tips to keep in mind when you are planning to send a gift basket to your boss, clients, employees, and business partners.

If you are buying a gift for your boss, you should remember that they look out for you. They brought you into their company, and provide you with the opportunity to use your skills, have a mutually beneficial relationship with the business or company, and support you. In some cases, your boss is the reason you have great health benefits and other perks. Bosses can be a challenge to shop for—when you are buying a gift, consider something that shows your appreciation, but do not go overboard.

Gift baskets for corporate clients can be sent annually or for special occasions throughout the year. For that reason, it’s a smart idea to choose a basket that has shelf-stable products so that the recipient can enjoy the items over time. This includes olive oils, sauces, and other high-quality non-perishable foods like pasta (who doesn’t like pasta?). Gift baskets for a new client are more intended to initiate a warm, friendly first impression so that they feel valued and seen by your company.

Occasionally it is a good idea to treat your employees to gift baskets as well. They may need a boost in confidence, a reward for doing a good job, or a treat for the holidays. Even the smallest gift set for corporate employees goes a long way in helping employees feel valued and appreciated, which works to your advantage as well, as they will have more incentive to keep doing their best.

Business Partners

Since business partners have worked with you on several occasions, perhaps provided you with discounts for products and services, they should also be appreciated. Sometimes it is a good idea to send them a reminder that you are grateful for your business relationship and their continued support.

Consider the Size of the Gift Basket

Are you sending a gift basket to an individual or a group of people? Gourmet gift baskets for corporations are a great way to accomplish this. These gift baskets contain a wide variety of items that each of the recipients will enjoy. For instance, an Italian-themed basket with an assortment of pasta, flavored olive oils, and sauces provides a unique gourmet experience that is not only practical, but also easy to enjoy in larger groups. You can also consider baskets with a variety of flavors to suit each person’s tastes and preferences. A salsa-themed basket featuring an array of salsas ranging from medium to mild to extra hot is sure to be a hit with any recipient!

Set a Budget

Depending on your budget, you can find an appropriate and beautiful gift for your recipient. First, figure out how much you want to spend, and browse baskets within that price range. You can even find premium baskets at reasonable prices depending when you shop.

Give Something with Meaning

Give a gift that keeps on giving by considering where the items in the gift basket are sourced and how the products are made. Your recipients will appreciate the gift so much more if they know the products or baskets are helping others. Look for a company that focuses on cause-based gifting, meaning they employ a variety of individuals from different backgrounds and with varying abilities, and donate some of their profits to worthy causes. Another great option is to choose products that are 100% natural and/or organic, and if your guests have food sensitivities, you can opt for gluten-free products too.
